The Fraser Valley is known for its famous playgrounds among winter sports enthusiasts. From the family-friendly powder skiing and backcountry challenges of the nearly 3,000 skiable acres of Winter Park Resort to guided snowmobile tours up the Continental Divide, sleigh rides, snowshoeing, tubing and dog sledding, Winter Park and the surrounding valley truly are a Winter Wonderland. Fraser is located in southeastern Grand County at an elevation of 8,574 feet (2,613 m) above sea level. It is bordered to the south by the town of Winter Park and to the north by unincorporated Tabernash. U.S. Route 40 leads south and east across Berthoud Pass 71 miles to Denver, and northwest 15 miles to Granby, the largest town in Grand County. The Fraser River passes through the east side of town, flowing north toward the Colorado River.
